The second leg of the TCS UCC home-and-home took place on A-Day as a raucous crowd welcomed the Varsity football team to the field. The Trinity College School Bears were a motivated opponent looking to avenge their defeat at their own homecoming game a week before, but it was not to be on this day as the Blues would once again emerge victorious.
The Blues got off to a fast start scoring on their opening possession. UCC traveled 72 yards in three plays, scoring an 18-yard touchdown run to finish off their first drive. Despite numerous penalties costing them valuable field position, the Blues offence was able to control the game and scored twice more before the end of the second quarter going up 18-0 after one.
TCS fought hard to get back in the game shutting out the Blues for the rest of the first half. On the Blues first possession of the second half TCS was able to intercept a pass and return it for a touchdown making the score 18-7. On the ensuing kickoff the Blues had a big return setting them up with good field position, the offence was able to punch the ball in the endzone regaining their 18-point advantage.
Thanks in part to a few more penalties by UCC, the Bears were able to find the endzone again, closing the score to 25-14. Once again, the Blues were able to respond and reestablished their advantage. The UCC defense was able to shut down the Bears offence for the remainder of the game and came away with a 32-14 home victory in front if the A-Day crowd. With the win, the Blues improved 2-0 on the season and will next take on their St. Clair Rivals Saint Mike’s on October 12th at Varsity Stadium in the Battle of the Blues.
