Blues reclaim CISAA title

Excellent defence and efficient offense lead the Blues to CISAA title
In the CISAA final the boys from Upper Canada College faced off against their rival from Aurora, the Saint Andrew’s Saints for the title of independent school division champions. In their regular season meeting the Blues came away with a 29-15 victory. Thanks to their undefeated record in league play this season, the boys in blue had the privilege of hosting the final in front of their home crowd.

When the action began the Blues got off to a near perfect start. After the defence forced SAC to a two-and-out, the Blues offence went on an eight-play drive capped off by a 12-yard touchdown run to go ahead 7-0 early in the first quarter. The momentum continued in UCC’s favour as they forced another SAC punt, which lead to 15-yard touchdown run to give the Blues a 14-0 lead.

The Upper Canada College played lights-out the entire game holding the Saints to only 54 first half yards, blocking a punt and forcing a turnover on downs. The blocked punt preceded the Blues’ third touchdown of the opening half, and helped them to a 24-0 lead at the break.

The home team kept up the pressure to start the third quarter going on a three-play, 63-yard drive that was capped off thanks to a 3-yard touchdown run to put the Blues up 31-0. The Blues defence was relentless in their effort all day, forcing two more turnovers in the second half and held the SAC offense to 130-yards of total offence. The Blues held on to their shutout, after a late drive by the Saints and finished the game victors 31-0 in the CISAA final.

With the victory the Blues reclaimed the CISAA title after missing out last season and gives them a total of five championships in the last six seasons.
